"This is a portrait of the person inside the armor — a figure the galaxy reads as fear, exposed as someone damaged and human. The torn mask had to sit at exactly the right angle and proportion against the exposed head, and the red light reflecting across the scar tissue took the most reworking of anything I've drawn. I want it to land as horror first, then as something familiar: we all keep a mask that can be broken open to the most sensitive parts of us."
